Love my Seat

I drive a Seat. A Seat Leon 2.0 TDI Businessline, chip tuned to 187 HP. Know why? This is why.

The encyclopedia of Life

Nice article on the BBC web site.

The Encyclopedia of Life project aims to detail all 1.8 million known plant and animal species in a net archive. Individual species pages will include photographs, video, sound and maps, collected and written by experts. The archive, to be built over 10 years, could help conservation efforts as well as being a useful tool for education.

There still seem to be some bugs and it appears to be slow, but I’m sure those things will be worked out over time.

‘Here comes another bubble’ taken down

It seems that YouTube can indeed protect copyright! In this case it’s a bit of a shame, since the video-sharing service just took down video parody called “Here Comes Another Bubble” by San Francisco’s Richter Scales, which I posted a little while back.

The video is sung to the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and perfectly nails the Web 2.0 mania that has been starting to spread this year. It hits the nail right on the head. The video opens, in fact, with a BoomTown video of an interview with Facebook investor Peter Thiel, who talks about there not being a bubble – yeah, right. Consequently, someone must have sent YouTube a take-down and the company honored it without contacting the Richter Scales first.

Not that it matters, because I found another version on MetaCafe.

Thin is always in

Today I did some experimenting with day 17 of 24 days. I’m using it for the main site and will do so for the new theme of this blog when I’ve chosen a colour palette (with the aid of Dave Shea’s article).

New theme coming up

Although I haven’t even finished tweaking this theme to my liking, I decided to start on a new one from scratch. It will probably take a few weeks or so before it’s finished (especially with the upcoming trip to NYC), but that doesn’t matter. I’ve installed a tiny plugin that will let you follow its progress by selecting the site’s theme. As you can see, all I’ve done up until now is define the divs and used CSS to put everything roughly in place. Read more
