BI history

The Microsoft BI team uploaded a video to YouTube about the history of my field of expertise. It’s a bit flashy, but useful if you’re new to the business or want to explain to someone else what it is you’re exactly doing. Read more

Collecting dust

Everything collects dust. Including your CSS. Dust-Me Selectors is a Firefox add-on that helps finding your unused CCS Selectors in style sheets. Handy when optimizing and debugging.

Childhood memories

Aah, nothing like some childhood memories (warning: probably NSFW). Back then I was definitely not trying to sneak a peek in the book stores for the articles. Nowadays, however, I wonder what the added value is of a magazine like Playboy. Could it be the articles? It almost has to be with all the smut out there on the internet. Nice Silverlight app by the way.

Chrome Experiments

To show us what can be done with Javascript (and Chrome) Google has launched Chrome Experiments. A collection of unusual experiments that also work in other (good) browsers.

An update on my second weekend trip

Unfortunately the opening of the hotel we booked in London has been delayed, so they offered to have us put up at The Royal Horse Guards hotel instead. It’s somewhat disappointing to have to stay at a different hotel from what you have originally booked, but judging from the website it should be alright (although it’s not quite the size we usually stay in – we prefer smaller hotels). They were, however, very apologetic and offered to give us a VIP next time we book a room with them. We’ll certainly take them up on their offer!

Apart from going to Moro we managed to squeeze in a reservation at Tom Aikens. We’d contemplated going to the Fat Duck, but they were temporarily closed at at that time. Should be a nice experience, I’ll be sure to let you know.

RIP ESD

It was announced a while back that the Business Objects Electronic Software Delivery was going to be closed down and it appears that it has, because I can still log in but cannot do anything else apart from that.

Rest in peace trusty ESD. I know we had our troubles at times, but being with you sure beats the heck out of being with the SAP MarketPlace. Oh well, I guess everything takes getting used to.

Weekend trip number two of 2009

Weekend trip number two of this year is coming up next week. I booked flights to London a while back, a room in a new (it hasn’t even opened yet) design hotel in Soho for the duration of our stay and lunch in the restaurant of the authors of some of my favourite cookbooks.

Apart from that I haven’t made any plans yet. Perhaps we’ll go see a show, do some shopping, visit a museum, hopefully go to some other great restaurants and of course drink a couple of pints (possibly with some old friends).

A bit of skateboarding on a lazy Sunday afternoon

No, not me of course. I’m referring to this stop motion video, it’s really cool.

Quote of the day

Punctuality is the virtue of the bored.

There’s nothing like working from home to the sound of de JvT, it’s a much more comfortable way to empty your mailbox (I think I might have to get some of those).
